We who build systems stand at the crossroads of history. We exist in a time where a small team of individuals can change the world while doing nothing more impressive than sitting at a keyboard.
As creators of what we now call software we can learn much from those that went before us. When the software developers that come after us look back on these times, will it be with pride or with shame? Will they praise our courage in creating systems that birthed new ideas? Will the systems we created grow beyond the simple concepts of software to create hard and lasting change in the world?
We don't know, but it's an amazing time to have a keyboard.
